Knowle, West Midlands, May 14, 1997A hugely successful gourmet evening for over 100 guests at Loyds Restaurant, Knowle, on Tuesday evening raised over £2700 for Marc and Nello's Ride for Life Fund. This fund, which is in support of Marc and Nello's cycle from Devon to Venice in aid of cancer research, has now topped its initial target of at least £10,000.
The evening was the brainchild of restaurateur David Jordan. When contacted by Marc Millon, David decided that his restaurant would make an ideal venue for the most important Ride for Life event in the Midlands. He comments, "At some stage in our lives, many of us will see the pain this disease causes, either directly or through the affliction of someone we know. I strongly believe in helping charities such as the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in their fight to conquer this killer disease."
Certainly, on the night David left no stone unturned to ensure that it was a resounding success and hugely enjoyable for all who had generously supported the event. He closed his other restaurant, Casa Tino's, in Sutton Coldfield, to ensure that both kitchen and dining rooms had sufficient staff, while executive chef Richard Turned devised a truly special gourmet menu, prepared, presented, and served in impeccable style: French asparagus with truffle vinaigrette, baked sea bass, citrus fruit granita, Cornish lamb cutlets with wild mushroom stuffing, a selection of English cheeses, tiramisu, followed by homebaked petits fours and coffee.
Congratulations to David Jordan, Richard Turner and all the staff at Loyds for their hugely successful evening, and for their magnificent support of Ride for Life.
